The shocking attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan has sent ripples across the nation. The 30-year-old attacker, identified as Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, a Bangladeshi national, was arrested after a three-day manhunt by Mumbai Police.

On January 16, the attacker broke into Saif Ali Khan’s Bandra apartment on the 12th floor of Satguru Sharan building. His intent was robbery, but a confrontation with the actor turned violent. Saif was stabbed multiple times during the scuffle, leaving him severely injured. The actor’s employee, Eliyamma Philips, first spotted the intruder and tried to intervene but sustained injuries herself.
Saif heard her screams and confronted the attacker, showing remarkable courage. He was later rushed to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent multiple surgeries. Doctors reported that Saif is now out of danger and recovering well.
The Hunt for the Attacker
Mumbai Police formed 20 teams to track down the suspect, who fled after the attack. The investigation revealed the accused had entered India illegally around seven months ago, crossing the Dawki river in Meghalaya from Bangladesh. He assumed multiple identities, including Vijay Das and Bijoy Das, to evade detection.
The police traced the suspect’s movements through hundreds of CCTV recordings, which showed him frequenting Dadar railway station and Worli Koliwada. A crucial lead came from a labour contractor who recognized him. Following the tip, police located the accused at a labour camp in Thane.
Illegal Entry and Multiple Identities
Shariful used forged documents, including an Aadhaar card belonging to a West Bengal resident, to purchase a SIM card. After entering India, he moved around West Bengal before settling in Mumbai. He worked briefly for a housekeeping agency and a hotel in Thane.
